A Clean Home: Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring cleaning is actually (now, call me crazy…) a time of year that I look forward to.  As a mother of two rugrats, keeping a clean home is crucial for my family’s health, happiness, and productivity. A clean home can reduce stress, promote better sleep, and create a sense of order and harmony. Spring cleaning is a perfect opportunity to refresh and renew my home, creating a more organized and functional space. In this blog post, I’ll cover the key benefits of spring cleaning, my personal essential cleaning tips and tricks, and I will provide helpful checklists to get the job done right!

The Benefits of Spring Cleaning

  • A cleaner, healthier home: Dust, dirt, and allergens can cause health problems, especially for children with asthma or allergies.
  • Reduces stress: A cluttered home can lead to a cluttered mind. Clearing out unnecessary items and organizing the space can help reduce anxiety and increase productivity.
  • Improves sleep: Sleeping in a clean, fresh environment can promote better sleep and improve overall health.  Nothing is worse than going to bed, knowing all that you didn’t do, yet again..
  • A more functional space: Spring cleaning can help us identify areas of our home that need decluttering or reorganizing, making our home a more functional space for daily life.

Essential Cleaning Tips and Tricks

  • Create a schedule: Divide the cleaning tasks into smaller, manageable chunks and set a schedule for completing them. This will make the process less overwhelming and ensure that every task is completed in a timely manner.
  • Declutter first: Before starting the cleaning process, declutter the home. Sort items into “keep,” “donate,” and “throw away” piles, and, in my case, a “yard sale” pile (I love me a good yard sale.  Again… another odd trait of mine..). This will make cleaning easier and help us see what items are essential and what can go.
  • Work from top to bottom:  THIS.  This is a big one for me. Start by cleaning the highest surfaces and work downwards, so that dirt and dust fall onto surfaces that haven’t been cleaned yet.  I even go as far as wiping down surfaces right onto the floor.  The vacuum will be by momentarily.
  • Use quality cleaning products: Many cleaning products contain harmful chemicals that can be dangerous for children and pets. Natural cleaning products are safer and often times just as effective.  Look into vinegar!  But know when to bring in the big guys.  Sometimes, bleach is the only thing that will remove the mildew from behind the bathroom blinds…
  • Involve the kids: Children can help with age-appropriate tasks, like putting away toys or wiping down surfaces. This is a great way to teach kids about responsibility and create a sense of teamwork in the family.

Helpful Checklists for Spring Cleaning
