Bridge Village Heritage Park
Bridge Village Heritage Park… it’s a mouthful, but it is also one of the easiest places to get a wide variety of images with the least amount of legwork! This location is TINY and almost every single client of mine has driven right by it their first time.
Located in Berkley MA, Bridge Village Heritage Park is tucked away on the banks of the Taunton River, next to the Berkley – Dighton bridge.
It offers SO many different views including, the Taunton River, the Berkley – Dighton Bridge, Bristol Aggie (and agricultural high school with gorgeous farmlands just across the river), tree lines, flowers, benches, reeds and sunsets right over the river. Anyone who doesn’t want to walk far for a location I always recommend the Bridge Village Heritage Park.
Some background.
In November of 2005 the Historical Commission requested that the Board of Selectmen grant them permission to create a park on a small piece of property that the town owned. The property was overgrown and full of trash. The idea was to create a park for people to be able to access the river with their canoes and kayaks, have a picnic or just sit and enjoy the view. Permission was granted.
In March of 2006 work began on Bridge Village Heritage Park. Over the next 8 months many volunteers including businesses, residents of Berkley and surrounding towns, Boy Scouts/ Girl Scouts, removed trash, cleared brush, spread loam, and planted flowers. Clam shells were spread to form the parking lot and path to the river, picnic tables and benches were donated and a bicycle rack was installed.
In October of 2006 the park officially opened. Over 100 volunteers helped to create this beautiful park at no cost to the town.
The Friends of the Bridge Village Heritage Park was formed in February of 2007. They are a 501c3 organization whose sole purpose is to maintain and preserve the park. This small oasis on the banks of the river is used every day by residents from all over the region.
Is it easy to find?
Yes and no. As I mentioned before, my clients will more often than not, drive right by Bridge Village Heritage Park on their first pass. The park is teeny tiny and is located RIGHT next to the Berkley – Dighton Bridge on the Berkley side. If you go over the bridge and find yourself near the high school, you’ve gone too far!
Parking is free and offers about 5 or 6 spots that are rarely ever all taken.
